Submission Guidelines, Sport History Review

Sport History Review shall use endnotes as its form of referencing. Authors must prepare endnotes by following the guidelines detailed in the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. Copies of the manual are available in most university libraries. Please keep endnotes as concise as possible.

Authors are requested to conform with the convention of using the terms Common Era, or CE (instead of AD), and Before Common Era, or BCE (instead of BC), when making reference to dates.
Articles may be submitted in English or in French. All manuscripts must be double-spaced, including the endnotes and any blocked quotes. Any artwork must be professionally done and camera-ready; freehand or typewritten lettering will not be accepted. Color illustrations are not supported at this time. All tables and figures must be original, or the permission to reuse copyrighted materials must have been obtained prior to acceptance.
Manuscripts must be submitted electronically via the SHR Manuscript Central site at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/hk_shr. The Manuscript Central system manages the electronic transfer of SHR manuscripts throughout the article-review process, providing step-by-step instructions and a user-friendly design. Please access the site and follow the directions for authors submitting manuscripts. Any problems that might be encountered can be resolved easily by selecting “Get Help Now” in the upper right corner of any Manuscript Central screen.
Before submitting, ensure that the endnotes are accurate and complete.
Manuscripts are subject to a blind review process taking from 6 to 8 weeks, depending on time of year and the volume of submissions. Authors should submit a cover sheet with each copy of the manuscript, including the title, name of author(s), institutional affiliation(s), running head, and full mailing address, telephone, fax, and e-mail address of all authors, as well an indication of who is to receive the galley proofs. The first page of the manuscript should contain only the title of the article. Subsequent pages should include the main body of text, endnotes, figures, tables, figure captions, and acknowledgments.
In order to reduce errors and expedite the production process, upon acceptance authors should submit the final version of the typescript to Manuscript Central as per the instructions of the Editor. Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must transfer copyright to Human Kinetics, Inc. Authors will have the opportunity to purchase reprints of their articles.
Book review suggestions should be made to the Book Review Editor, who is solely responsible for assigning and editing book reviews. Book publishers are asked to send two copies of any books submitted for review. Please contact and/or send books to Carly Adams, PhD, Department of Kinesiology & Physical Education, University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada T1K 3M4 (E-mail: carly.adams@uleth.ca).
