Coaches

The American Sport Education Program (ASEP) is the most widely used and respected sport education program in the United States. More than 30 states recommend or require ASEP courses for their high school coaches, and more than 200 universities use ASEP courses and resources. All told, more than one million people-coaches, officials, sport administrators, and parents alike-have used ASEP products since the program began in 1981.

Since 1990, ASEP has been working with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) in developing and delivering educational courses and resources to high school coaches through the NFHS Coaches Education Program. More than 30,000 high school coaches across the country participate in these courses each year.

ASEP's motto of "Athletes First, Winning Second" is the foundation of its curriculum and the driving force behind its efforts. ASEP courses-now offered conveniently online-show adults involved in youth sport how to place the physical, mental, and social development of a child before winning.

ASEP offers a multilevel educational program that mirrors the common divisions of youth sport in America:

  • Volunteer Education Program-geared toward park and recreation departments and youth sport organizations (coaches of children age 6 to 13)
  • Professional Education Program-geared toward high schools, club sport organizations, and Olympic sport organizations (coaches of young adults 14 and older)

Through ASEP's online courses, coaches can receive training anywhere they have access to the Internet-at their convenience and without travel expenses. In addition, if you are a busy youth sport administrator, ASEP's online Coaching Youth [Sport] courses free you of the hassles of organizing educational sessions and preparing to facilitate the courses.
